I came across this ‘curio’ of selected screen shorts, each one spotlighting ‘big band’ stars of the ’30’s. Highlights were a very young Desi Arnaz, Vincent Lopez with an off-the-wall Betty Hutton doing a jitterbug number that is pretty hilarious, Cab Calloway doing his ‘hi-di-hi-di-hi-di-ho’ number, and a segment starring Cliff Edwards, who was the voice of Jiminy Cricket(from “Pinocchio”). If you close your eyes, you can picture him singing ,’When You Wish Upon a Star’, although he doesn’t do that number here. There’s also a segment starring Stan Kenton. In glorious black&white, this is a tasty morsel for fans of the big-band sound. Worth checking out.
