TARGET FOR TODAY: 8TH AIR FORCE AT WAR – DVD

$34.98

In October of 1943, the Eighth Air Force made a series of “maximum effort” bombing raids into occupied Europe. The targets were Anklam, Marienburg (home of an FW-190 factory), and Gdynia in Poland, all industrial centers for the Nazi war machine. The raids, which General Hap Arnold called “the greatest strike ever” helped cripple German aircraft production and signaled the beginning of the end for the Luftwaffe. The documentary “Target for Today” documents these three air raids from planning, to briefing, preparation, and then reveals in unparallelled sequences the brutal battles waged at 30,000 feet. It’s a fascinating, and deeply moving account, entirely featuring the real men of the Mighty Eighth Air Force. Featured on this deluxe edition DVD is the original “Target for Today” in its entirety, and two bonus films. One is a short combat newsreel showing the 8th Air Force in action, and the other “Target Berlin” which describes the assembly of a Lancaster bomber. Runs 154 minutes. Digitally remastered and restored from original 16mm prints. Please note: because of the age and rarity of these films, image and sound quality may vary.
